In the event of a serious or life-threatening accident, or other type of medical emergency (e.g., fear of widespread food poisoning) – immediately contact 911.
At the same time, management and the ERT should be notified. If management determines that the situation requires activation of the Emergency Action Plan, the ERT will proceed to notify the rest of the staff and any visitors on-site of the next steps.
If additional assistance is needed, the ERT may put out an announcement requesting anyone with first aid training to respond to the situation.
Only staff who have registered with human resources and presented evidence of their first aid training should be allowed to respond to such situations.
First Aid equipment (First Aid Kits, AEDs, personal protective equipment) as well as fire extinguishers and other fire-fighting equipment can be found throughout the facility. The location of such equipment should be indicated on posted evacuation and sheltering routes.
As accurate information on the incident becomes available, it should be shared with staff members in order to stem the development of inaccurate rumors.
